Meet Dr. Emil

My name is Emil Tetzner and I want to welcome you to my practice.

Education and Experience

I spent most of my early life in Ocean City, NJ, and developed an interest in dentistry while attending Fairleigh Dickinson University. After graduating Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1978, I attended dental school at the University of Pennsylvania. There, I graduated with honors and Magna Cum Laude in 1982, with my Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD).

I was then selected for advanced training in a general practice residency program in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, I had the opportunity to work in and learn about all specialties in dentistry.

It was through the Air Force that I had the opportunity to attend a specialty training program in Periodontics at the University of Maryland Dental School. In 1990 I completed a Certificate in Periodontics and then, in 1992, a Master of Science in Oral Biology.

I was assigned to Dover Air Force Base in 1990 and served there until 1994, when I separated from the Air Force with an honorable discharge.

My Practice

I have been blessed to provide compassionate and excellent care to many patients in both of my offices and have been rewarded with their satisfaction, compliments and – best of all – their heartfelt smiles.

I have a passion to help people address and rectify oral conditions and keep their teeth and oral cavity healthy. In order to provide the highest quality care and treatment options, I attend numerous continuing education gatherings and complete multiple specialty courses throughout the year.

If teeth are lost, dental implants are an excellent way to replace them. I like placing implants, but as a periodontist, my main treatment emphasis is to save teeth. I am most excited about the Laser Periodontal Therapy I provide. It greatly reduces patients’ fears and eliminates the lengthy recovery period and side-effects associated with conventional periodontal surgery.

I am the only periodontist or dentist offering the LANAP or LAPIP procedure in lower Delaware.  Laser dentistry can also be used to treat other oral conditions with reduced discomfort, side-effects, and expense.

Personal Life

My home life is very family-centered. My loving and caring wife, Denise, is a nurse practitioner in internal medicine, and works in a Sussex County medical practice. We have been blessed with three wonderful sons: Shaun, Scott, and Derek. They have participated in medical/dental mission trips and they now have wonderful families.  All of them have a passion for helping others and for surfing.

I believe it is important to support and serve others, wherever the need arises, and have participated in multiple mission trips annually to Central America since 2006. Locally, I support and participate in many charity functions, including Catholic Heart Work Camps and Habitat for Humanity. Additionally, my office staff participated in the Give Kids a Smile program.

Final Thoughts

Most patients with periodontal disease will need to see a periodontist, periodically, for the rest of their lives. I hope I can exceed your expectations for treatment, restore functional and health, and improve your quality of life.

I truly look forward to meeting you.
